Lease Drivers
3 or 4 year finance deal, paying for a 10 year coating on a car you're handing back doesn't make sense. The 5 year tier keeps the paint genuinely protected for the length of ownership and lease companies deduct for swirl marks, water spotting and bird etch damage. The coating helps prevents all three.

What 5-7 Hours Actually Looks Like
Both 5 year and 10 year coatings take roughly the same time, around 5 to 7 hours including prep. The 10 year isn’t slower; it uses a different, more durable product. Here’s how the 5 year coating day plays out.
Arrival & setup
I pull up to your driveway with the full mobile kit, water, power if needed, all materials. Quick chat about the car and any specific concerns, then to work.
Wash & decontamination · 1.5 hours
pre-wash, two bucket safe hand wash, iron fallout removal, tar removal, clay bar. Longest stage, skipping anything here costs you years off the coating life.
Drying & masking · 30 mins
Microfiber dry, then masking off trim, rubber seals and badges so the machine polishing doesn't get on anything it shouldn't.
Paint correction · 2 hours
Single stage machine polish to remove swirls and minor defects. Panel by panel under proper lighting so I can see corrections happening in real time.
Panel wipe · 30 mins
Every panel wiped down with dedicated preperation solvent to remove all polish residue. Without this step the coating won't bond properly.

Why A 5 Year Coating Makes Sense in Greater Manchester
M60 commuters get the worst of it – motorway tar splatter, brake dust from heavy traffic, salt and grit through winter months. A coated car going through this every day stays substantially cleaner between washes than uncoated paint, and contaminants don’t bond as aggressively. Common Questions About the 5 Year Coating
Will the 5 year coating really last 5 years if I drive daily?
Yes, provided the prep was done properly and aftercare is reasonable. The 5 year rating assumes regular driving conditions, normal aftercare, and not parking under a tree that drops sap year round. I’ve got cars I coated 4 years ago still beading water like they did at 6 months, the warranty’s only meaningful if the application was done right.
Can I upgrade to a 10 year coating later?
You can’t ‘top up’ a 5 year to make it 10 year, they’re different products. But when the 5 year reaches end of life (usually around year 4–5 you’ll see hydrophobic performance dropping off), you can have a fresh 10 year coating applied. The original 5 year would be polished off as part of the prep for the new coating.
What happens if I sell the car before 5 years?
The coating stays with the car, not the owner. The warranty’s registered against the vehicle so the new owner inherits the remaining cover. Whether buyers pay more for a coated used car varies, premium and performance car buyers do; supermini buyers generally don’t. Either way, the car photographs better and looks sharper at the viewing.
Is the 5 year a real ceramic coating or a glorified sealant?
Yes it’s a real silica-based (SiO₂) ceramic coating with a certified 5 year lifespan when applied correctly. Marketing rebranded sealants exist, they claim ‘ceramic’ on the bottle but use cheap polymer chemistry that wears off in months. The product I use is from a recognised manufacturer with independent durability testing and verified data. I’ll show you the data sheet if you want it.
Can the 5 year coating fix swirl marks?
The coating itself doesn’t fix swirls, but the application process includes single stage paint correction which removes most light swirls before the coating goes on. Deep scratches and serious swirl damage need heavier correction which is an add on. If your car has heavy swirling I’ll let you know during the quote whether 5 year + standard correction is enough.
How is the 5 year different from the 10 year if both take the same time?
Different chemistry, the 5 year uses a 10H rated SiO₂ coating formulated for a 5 year lifespan with one application layer. The 10 year uses a more concentrated, harder curing formula with deeper bonding properties, a different product designed for double the life. Both take similar application time because the prep is the same; the coating itself takes 1–1.5 hours to apply either way.
Do I need to do anything to maintain the warranty?
Yes, basic aftercare: no automatic car washes, no abrasive sponges, no acidic wheel cleaners on coated bodywork, and a wash every 2–4 weeks using coating safe products.
